I think we all differ in sensitivity to dirt, noise and similar record problems so what I notice after cleaning might not be what you notice. I've found that some discs need several clean/play cycles to achieve the best sound and quiet surfaces. The brush alone will also polish the surfaces, though not to the same extent, if used for a while (many revolutions). I'm not certain it's a 'residue', though the difference in the record surface can clearly be felt when using a carbon fibre brush. There is an effect after cleaning (and this isn't DD specific, I had the same effect when using other wet products) where some playing - often two or more plays - are needed to reduce the noise level and burnish the groove surface. Keeping everything (brushes, cloths, surfaces) reasonably clean helps so does using good quality distilled water for everything that needs wetting or diluting. I don't think there's a good answer here.
